South Bank is Brisbane’s largest and newest attraction.  Best of all it’s free to everyone.  The large tract of riverside parkland is a meeting place for locals and visitors alike to come and enjoy some of the best views of the city.  Wander along the river promenade or get fit with a bike ride along the cycle way; walk through the gardens and along the wooden walkways of the rainforest; take a ride on the water ways or a swim at city beach; or head for the entertainment areas, cafes, shops and restaurants.

South Bank has been built on the site of the former World Expo ’88 and just as Expo became the entertainment focus for the city and the state, South Bank too lifestyle.  Street performer entertain visitors as they explore the complex, while at the Piazza seating for 3,000 has been provided for the program of entertainment and events.

Gondwana Rainforest Sanctuary and the Butterfly House are special attractions at South Bank (an entrance fee is required).  They provide a unique look into the natural world of Australia’s marsupials in a rainforest setting complete with waterfalls … and live crocodiles!
